Minnesota Chapter of APWA - Now in Our 66th Year

With an initial meeting in Brainerd in 1946, the Minnesota Chapter of APWA was formed less than ten years after the national organization.  We've grown to 919 members in 2012, encompassing the public works profession across our State.  The Minnesota Chapter is well represented among the 27,000 APWA membership.

Saint Paul Receives APWA Accreditation - First in Minnesota!

The City of Saint Paul took a a risk three years ago with a vision to document all of its work as "Best Practices" through the APWA Management Practices Manual and seek  APWA Accreditation.  In late November, the City was notified that it had received certification, the first in Minnesota.  Congratulations to Saint Paul !!   What's gained from this effort?  Here you go:

1. Documenting and Updating Work Practices and Their Relevance to Our Customers;

2. Succession Planning over the Next Ten Years for Our Future Leaders; and
3. Employees to be Recognized as Professionals in Our Community.
  1. "This is important, but not urgent work that competes daily with the fires that cross your desk.  Maintain momentum, pick away at the goal is the best way to get there.... THINK TORTISE, NOT HARE!"   (Bruce Besse, City of Saint Paul).    Is this a big deal?   Yes, especially in the Minnesota Chapter.  See the complete Chalkline article.  Who will be the next Saint Paul?

WOW, LOOK WHAT YOU MISSED THIS YEAR !

Just kidding, but if you were not among the 127 Workshop attendees or the 347 at the Conference, not a problem.  Too many concurrent session presentations, not a problem.  Couldn't get away from work or the Boss wouldn't let you go, not a problem.  Here are the Workshop Presentations.  What about the next two days, here are the  Conference Presentations.  We've got 90% of them uploaded, the rest in a week.  No excuses, learn about workers compensation, asset management, water main rehab, trail/corridor maintenance, bridge construction/management, MnWARN, stormwater management, MN2050, more and more.  We aim to please, so get involved in the Chapter.
